Not really a good time to do your cpl..we all know what the current scenario is and i suggest all the youngsters especially those of middle class take the decision only and only after getting the right details and a vast research!!

yeah, not the best times to get into this field. Everybody from schools to instructors even DGCA looking to make advantage of this situation and grab as much money from aspiring pilots. its a hard time specially for people who took heavy loans for their training and finding it difficult to repay the EMI's . CPL holders are willing to work without pay, still not successful to land up with a job. really a tough time

the worst part is we don't have anything called General Aviation here. At least 4000(actual number may be more) students went abroad for CPL training. Each guy/gal has spent at least 25 lakhs (approx) for training. total amount coming up-to 1000 crores :O . Imagine if this money was spent for flying in India. then situation of GA in India would have been different. hundreds of flying schools would have come up. thousands could have found a job as a flight instructors.
But who cares about that, the government and DGCA are least concerned about the training standards in the country. The attitude of the CFI's in the Indian flying school alone tells the story. Moreover we have drained out so much money out of the country in bad recession time with no jobs now.

If you have the money to spend for your CPL training and after that an additional 25-30 lakhs to buy yourself a job, then I say go for it. I have heard that you can land yourself a job with some of the airlines in India provided you have the money to bribe someone.

I completely agree with above..
All passionate fellows are left aside while the moolah speaks for the guys who get the job !!

yes there is no general aviation in india.
now may be not the right time to join aviation but we have already touched the crest and we may go up.
but those of you who can think of nothing else but flying here is what i have to say...
go directly for frozen ATP. this would be a little costly but it would give you an edge over others in the field of aviation. this may increase your chances to get the job when there is any opening.
we must not forget that lot's of pilots are going to retire soon. so if you want you can take your chances but remember it's a high stakes game and you can win and you can loose.
be careful
best of luck to all
